How it all started
I was roughly halfway through my psychiatry training, when I began to experience some disillusionment after completing a hospital rotation. What I observed was a pattern where patients, seemingly unresponsive to antidepressants, would have to resort to cocktails of medications. This unfortunately would commonly result in minimal improvements and numerous side effects.
There had to be another way. Wanting to overcome my sense of helplessness, I began researching for alternatives to combat the these invisible conditions.
And let’s be clear: conditions like depression, OCD, PTSD, and chronic pain are not merely “in your head.” You can’t simply “snap out of it.” These are real biological conditions. For instance, depression is caused by an imbalance of chemicals and neural activity in the brain, often precipitated by external events, but not always.
Eventually I came across TMS, an evidence backed but previously very expensive, drug-free treatment which utilised magnetic fields to activate neural pathways.
I decided to learn as much as possible about this groundbreaking technology, focussing in particular on the work being done in USA and Japan. Several years later, I established Neuralia TMS.
A single mission
This mission has led Neuralia to become the first TMS-specific service in Australia to remove the gap for Medicare-eligible TMS.

Dr Shanek Wick
MEDICAL DIRECTOR
Dr. Shanek Wick MBBS FRANZCP is a psychiatrist with a special interest in Neurostimulation and Addiction Disorders.
Dr. Wick grew up in Perth and attended medical school at the University of Western Australia. He began his training at Fremantle Hospital. He chose to train in Psychiatry after seeing the immense burden of mental illness on his patients. He pursued further training in Addiction Disorders in Queensland before returning to Perth.
Dr Riti Chetty
MANAGING DIRECTOR
Dr. Riti Chetty MBBS is a specialist physician-in-training with a keen interest in holistic medicine.
Dr. Chetty grew up in Perth’s southern suburbs, attended medical school at the University of Western Australia and began her training at Royal Perth Hospital. She has worked across numerous sites in WA.
While training as a physician, Dr. Chetty realised that patients were often having sub-optimal outcomes because their mental health was being neglected.
